Bolingbrook Park District Awarded $400,000 OSLAD Grant

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Governor’s Office announced that Bolingbrook Park District has been awarded a $400,000 grant to improve Century Park (1675 Apple Valley Dr.) through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program. The matching grant will cover 50% of the project that includes a new playground.

A total of 85 park and recreation agencies throughout the State of Illinois received a total of $29.7 million in matching grants.

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide more improvements for our residents beyond what the referendum projects include,” said Ron Oestreich, executive director. “Not only am I thankful that the state provided the funds, but I’m proud of our team for the work they did to submit a winning proposal.”

The Century Park Improvement Project includes:

  • Playground Renovation
  • Gazebo
  • Two Pickleball Courts
  • Basketball Circle
  • Fishing Area with Outcropping and Seating
  • Interpretive Sign
  • Pond Edge Enhancements - Native Landscape Buffer
  • 8' Wide Asphalt Pathway
  • Landscaping and Picnic Grove
  • Off Street Parking

Design of the project will be complete this year with construction likely to begin by the end of 2020 or early 2021. A detailed site development plan can be found by clicking the link below:

“Investments in local park projects are good for families and recreation enthusiasts, helping them enjoy outdoor activities and making Illinois communities better places to live and work,” Governor Pritzker said. “Parks projects also boost local economic development efforts and spur additional investment throughout the state.”
