Active Projects
The asphalt parking lot to the south of Wipfler Park, off the Tibbott Elementary School Parking Lot, is up for replacement as part of the district’s capital asset replacement plan. Due to the evolving needs of the Bolingbrook Park District and safety concerns, we have decided to remove the parking lot and access road and replace with field turf.
This 12-foot-wide access road has been improperly used as a two-way street for vehicles between Laurie Circle and Queenswood Road. This has posed significant risks to pedestrians, spectators and drivers. It has also caused damage to the access road and adjoining landscape. This access road was constructed in 2001 to accommodate growing baseball leagues. There is no longer a need for this parking lot and access road since league play has discontinued at this site.
The decision to remove this access road was not made lightly. We have conducted thorough assessments and engaged in extensive discussions with the park district, village and school officials to ensure this change does not impact school children drop-off or public safety with emergency vehicles.
Parking will still be available at Tibbott School (off Queenswood/Gary Drive) for those wishing to utilize the fields on the south end of Wipfler. Removal of the parking lot and access road will begin on June 23rd and be completed prior to the start of the 2024/2025 school year.
