Sports Training And Lessons

Anything can HAPPEN,
but it has to start with a Day One.

Everyone has a “Day One.” It could be for starting a new diet or workout routine, it could be the first day at a new job, anything. It is exciting because it’s a fresh start and a beginning to a new journey with the end result being unknown. Bolingbrook Park District offers numerous opportunities for toddlers, youth and adults to learn a new sport.

Our new youth sports program at Bolingbrook Park District is taking that exact approach.

The philosophy is simple:

  • Learn the basics and fundamentals of sports.

  • Our coaches include everyone. Nobody is left on the sidelines. Everyone gets to participate.

  • Have fun! This is the true baseline of sports, play because we want to and because it’s fun.

  • Foster life-long skills to build an active lifestyle.

We will cover many fundamentals for dinking mechanics to improve your consistency at the NVZ. We will train on making 3rd shot drops, resets, and train on backhand footwork and fundamentals. Participants will practice some serving and receiving strategies, go over proper court positioning during play. This is called shifting/shading on the court. Participants will go over the “X” pattern and how it factors in decision making on the court to determine who plays the ball in a rally. You will have the opportunity to work on some special footwork fundamentals, such as the split step, and fine tune the ready position. We will work on player movement on the court, shifting/pinching movement and go over why it is so important during game play. Participants will train on when to decide and transition from the baseline to the NVZ as the serving team during a rally and learn when and how to make that decision based on the situation on the court. We will also cover lobs and how to work as a team to cover this return. You will also learn about stacking and its purpose and why you may use it on the court with a teammate.
